Ekovir 400mg (5 pills)

400mg (5 pills) of Acyclovir (Zovirax) John Lee

Product Description

Ekovir 400mg (5 pills).

Ekovir 400mg – an antiviral (antiherpetic) agent for external use is a synthetic analogue of the nucleoside thymidine, which is a natural component of DNA.

In infected cells containing viral thymidine kinase, phosphorylation and conversion to acyclovir monophosphate occurs. Under the influence of guanylyl cyclase acyclovir monophosphate is converted into diphosphate and under the influence of several cellular enzymes – in triphosphate. High selectivity of action and low toxicity for humans are due to the lack of the necessary enzyme for the formation of acyclovir triphosphate in intact cells of the macroorganism.

Ekovir 400 is an oral antibiotic manufactured by the pharmaceutical company John Lee.  Acyclovir is the active ingredient in this drug. In medicine, this antiviral drug is used to treat viral illnesses such as herpes simplex virus infections, chickenpox, and shingles. Off-label, the drug is sometimes used to treat Bell’s palsy in conjunction with Prednisolone (a steroid). Acyclovir is also used to treat steroid acne and to alleviate post-injection pain (PIP) and inflammation caused by steroid injections.

Properties and effects

Acyclovir’s principal medical action is to prevent viruses from growing in the body, hence lowering the symptoms of viral infections. It will aid in the prevention of virus transmission in people with weakened immune systems.

Although Acyclovir will not cure the virus, it will reduce the severity and length of the symptoms. Skin infections will be prevented from occurring, and skin sores and acne will recover much faster. The usage of this medicine will lessen pain and inflammation in other inflamed areas of the skin.

Recommendations for use

Because acyclovir can be used to treat a variety of illnesses, the dosage and duration of treatment will vary depending on the condition and severity of the condition.

The medicine should be taken every 4 hours for best effectiveness (5 times per day). The following are some typical dosages:

  • 200mg (half a pill) every 4 hours for 5 days for acne and skin irritation.
  • 200mg (half a pill) every 4 hours for 10 days for genital herpes.
  • 400mg (1 pill) twice a day for up to 12 months for herpes prevention.
  • 800mg (2 tablets) every 4 hours for 7-10 days for shingles.
  • 800mg (2 tablets) 4 times a day for 5 days (as soon as symptoms appear) for chickenpox.

While using this medication, it is recommended that you drink plenty of water and limit your calcium intake.

Acyclovir triphosphate inhibits the synthesis (replication) of the virus DNA by three mechanisms:

1) competitively replaces deoxyguanosine triphosphate in DNA synthesis;
2) “embedded” in the synthesized DNA chain and stops its elongation;

3) inhibits the enzyme DNA polymerase of viruses. As a result, the reproduction of the virus in the human body is disrupted.

Precautions for the substance Acyclovir

In the treatment with Acyclovir, a large amount of liquid is recommended (to prevent the formation of a precipitate of acyclovir in the renal tubules).

Care should be taken with IV administration to patients with neurological disorders, impaired liver function, electrolyte balance disorders, pronounced hypoxia, and with impaired renal function (and when administered internally). To reduce the risk of kidney damage with IV administration, the drug should be injected slowly, within 1 hour. When symptoms of nephropathy appear, the drug is canceled.

The toxic effect of acyclovir on the CNS is more likely in patients with impaired immunity, in elderly patients, using high doses.

In the treatment with acyclovir, thrombocytopenic purpura and / or hemolytic uremic syndrome, in rare cases with a fatal outcome, in patients with clinically expressed forms of HIV infection were recorded in clinical practice.

It is not recommended for prescribing to children for the treatment of chicken pox if the disease is mild.

In the treatment of genital herpes, sexual intercourse should be avoided or condoms should be used. The use of acyclovir does not prevent the transmission of the virus to the partner.

Cream and ointment for external use (5%) is not recommended to be applied to the mucous membranes of the mouth and eyes. Possibly the development of pronounced local inflammation.
